Believing the Lord’s Words : 'The Road to Joseph'

First: Hearing God’s Words to You


In my book, ‘The Road to Joseph’ Chris has a dream in which God the Father speaks to him. He tells Chris that the desire that he has to play the role of Joseph in the school nativity play will come true - despite his current situation of being on crutches and being cast as a cow!


In this story, I am normalising the fact that God speaks to us all. All we have to do is to be open to this. I don’t know where you are on your faith journey, but I hope that you know, that God loves you so much that He wants to talk with you….in fact, He is desperate to do this! Me and my faith journey? I couldn’t take on the possibility that this might be true till I was twenty-seven years old. I just wasn’t ready.


You see, no one had ever told me that God was desperate to have a relationship with me…and that’s why He died for me on the cross. A relationship means having a conversation with someone. But for me, God had been represented as cold and not deeply caring about my small life in His big universe and that all the miracles were pretty much done in the Old and New Testaments. That’s all I had to cling onto. That was it. But that’s not it!


If your heart is open - God can speak to a you or to your child today. If you are sceptical about this but would like to give it a go… I recommend that you pray to God and ask Him to show you a Catholic charismatic prayer group you can attend to learn more about this conversational relationship.


Second: Will you Believe in His Words?


So, now that Chris has heard God speak to him….he needs to believe in His Words. Simply believe! Well, that is easy for Chris on the morning after his dream while he is telling his mum and dad about this….because he is on cloud nine!


Third: Hanging in there with Trust


But as time goes on, this is when Chris’ trust in God’s Words…in God’s Promise…starts to wane. This is the story for all of us, right? When things aren’t going as we had prayed for…in fact, when they seem to be going in the opposite direction- that’s often when our trust in God wanes.

But, as I have to keep learning over and over again….God’s timing is rarely our timing. He can only grow our trust in Him if He stetches our trust muscles! In the end Chris’ dream is realised and all is well. Trusting in God’s Words  - no matter what – is the biblical truth that I am hoping to instil in every child who listens to my story.
