First Reconciliation: “Finding Jesus”

Learning to say sorry
We have all been in this uncomfortable spot, haven’t we. It’s not easy to admit that we have done something wrong. Little Chris gets into his friends’ father’s car, and they drive off to a farm as part of a competition. It’s all completely innocent but Chris hasn’t asked his dad for permission to do this. He has misunderstood his dad saying that Mr. Rodrigues can help, as a blanket term to do anything with Mr. Rodrigues without asking for further permission! It’s a huge learning curve for Chris.
When Chris realises that he has upset his dad, he says sorry to him straight away and they share an emotional making-up hug. Chris also remembers to say sorry to God straight away too, as we should all do. Little Chris is making things right. And this, of course is what we do in the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Jesus/God.
My Hope for Your Child
My hope for your child is that through this story he/she will see that we all get things wrong from time to time. I also hope that they realise that the best thing to do at these times is to ‘say sorry’, to clear the air and to repair the relationship. They will notice that little Chris not only says sorry to his dad from his heart, but he also says sorry to God. I hope that your child will see that this is a very normal and natural thing to do and that the Sacrament of Reconciliation will begin to make sense. My hope is that your child will see the need to make-up with Jesus when he/she has sinned against Him: to clear the air and make the relationship right again.
